Boat Class Coaching

RS200 Coaching UK

One of the most exciting double-handed dinghies in the UK. Fast, competitive, and technical. The RS200 rewards crews who get the details right.

The RS200 fleet is one of the most actively raced double-handed classes in the UK. The national fleet is large, the standard is high, and the difference between tenth and thirtieth is often a handful of decisions over two days. ARC coaching helps you make better decisions, faster.

We work with RS200 helms and crews across all experience levels. From sailors who have been racing the class for a season and want a step up in results, to established open meeting sailors targeting a first-ever nationals top-20 finish. The coaching approach is the same: systematic, evidence-based, and built around what the 360-degree footage actually shows us.

RS200 coaching at ARC focuses heavily on the helm-crew communication systems that differentiate fast boats from slow ones. Boat speed is one part of the equation. Tactical awareness, crew work timing, and spinnaker handling under pressure are where most RS200 sailors have the most to gain.

Key RS200 Coaching Areas

Rig Setup and Boat Speed

Rig tension, spreader settings, and sail controls for variable UK conditions. Two-boat testing to measure real speed differences, not estimated ones.

Spinnaker Handling

Hoist, gybe, and drop sequences under race conditions. The moments where RS200 places are gained and lost most often.

Helm and Crew Communication

The tactical conversation between helm and crew that keeps the boat fast and the strategy clear. How champion crews do it under pressure.

Starting in a Fleet

RS200 national starts are competitive and punishing for sailors who do not have a clear system. We build one.

Tactical Decision-Making

When to go left, when to go right, when to cover, and when to split. Built around the specific wind patterns at key RS200 venues.

Physical Conditioning for Two-Handers

Fitness programme for both helm and crew, covering the specific physical demands of trapeze work, tacking, and sustained hiking.
